Antique sextant by Elliott, London.

A fine late 19th century navigators Sextant with classic three ring design frame. Beautifully hand engraved on the arc Elliott, London.

The silver scale is engraved from -5  degrees to 155 degrees and can measure angles to 128 degrees, it is divided into 10 minute increments. The index arm has swinging scale magnifier, the silver Vernier scale reads from 0 to 10 seconds of arc.

This sextant has a 6.5 inch radius.

Box measures W 25.5 / D 24.5 / H 12.5 cm

This antique Sextant is in superb condition and is contained within its original hardwood box. It comes complete with all its accessories - Five telescopes and two telescope sun filters. 

The Directory of British Instrument Makers 1550 - 1851 by Gloria Clifton, lists the Elliott family as making instruments in london from 1826. This antique sextant was probably made by William Edward Elliott who manufacturd nautical instruments in London between 1831 and 1870.
